Virtus Entella and Vicenza played out a 2-2 draw in Serie B's third round on Saturday at the Stadio Comunale di Chiavari. The hosts had led 1-0 before the break, but Vicenza answered to take the lead in the second half before Entella grabbed an equaliser late on. Three points remained unclaimed for both sides in what turned into a match decided by moments rather than dominance.
Gabriele Moncini gave Vicenza the lead in the 22nd minute, a clean finish that caught Entella flat-footed. Mattia Valoti and Andrea Tiritiello went close to adding to their side's advantage before half-time, but the visitors were denied by a combination of good defending and a touch of fortune. On 37 minutes, M. Alborghetti levelled the score, and by then the momentum had shifted without either team quite knowing how to hold it.
The second half opened with more urgency, and Entella began to see the ball in dangerous areas. Substitutions came in waves as both managers searched for something different — Gabriele Moncini came off for Entella on 56 minutes, while Vicenza brought on Filippo Costa and Mattia Valoti. Silvio Merkaj restored Vicenza's lead on 75 minutes, but Giacomo Corona's strike in the 86th minute ensured the visitors left with only a point despite having kicked on.
What stood out was how the game swung without either side controlling it for long spells. Entella pressed higher after the break, and their intensity forced Vicenza into errors. To be fair, the visitors had their own chances but could not put the game to bed early. The relationship between pressure and response was uneven, and that is often where these matches are won or lost.
Entella dominated possession at 53 per cent and registered 89 attacks compared to Vicenza's 60. They took 10 shots, five on target, while Vicenza managed five shots on target from nine attempts. Both sides created three big chances, but conversion rates told a different story — Entella's shot accuracy sat at 36 per cent against Vicenza's 42.
The result keeps both clubs in familiar territory. Entella remain 16th with one point from three games, while Vicenza sit 12th on four points. Neither side has yet established any real separation in the table, and this draw suggests the season's early shape may not change quickly.
