Westchester and Napoli met in the Group Stage of USL League One on Friday evening, and the visitors completed a remarkable comeback to win 3-2. The hosts took a commanding lead through two goals in the first half, but Napoli scored three unanswered goals after the interval to snatch victory.
C. McGlynn opened the scoring for Westchester in the 29th minute, and P. Elias doubled the advantage just nine minutes later with a clinical finish in the 38th. By then the home side looked comfortable, but Napoli responded immediately. A. Ferrin converted a penalty in the 48th minute to bring the visitors level, and the momentum had shifted.
The match turned completely in the final quarter. N. Likulia struck twice in quick succession, opening the scoring in the 78th minute before adding a second in the 79th to seal the win. Westchester had made several changes at half-time, bringing on A. Mesias and K. O'Connor, but the adjustments could not stop the tide. Napoli also reshuffled, with O. Ciss replaced by N. Powder in the 73rd minute before the substitute came off for D. Guezen three minutes later.
The statistics tell a familiar story of chances and conversion. Napoli held 51 per cent possession and registered 142 attacks against Westchester's 134, but the hosts were more precise. Westchester recorded eight shots on target with 47 per cent accuracy, while Napoli managed only four shots on target despite their higher volume. The penalty proved decisive, as did Likulia's composure in front of goal.
The result leaves Napoli three points clear in 13th place with 26 points from 24 matches, while Westchester remain in 14th on 23 points. Both sides have played the same number of games, but the gap has widened. Napoli's away form continues to be their strength, while Westchester will need to find a way to protect leads at home.
