Ak Bars Close In on Torpedo's Yegor Sokolov
Ak Bars have reached a preliminary deal to sign forward Yegor Sokolov from Torpedo, who left him out of their KHL season opener against Spartak.
Ak Bars are closing in on a deal for Yegor Sokolov, with the two clubs having reached a preliminary agreement on a move from Torpedo, journalist Mikhail Zislis of Sport-Ekspress has reported.
Sokolov signed a one-year contract extension with Torpedo in late July, but the Forward has struggled to make his case in pre-season and was left out of the squad for Nizhny Novgorod's regular-season opener against Spartak. By all accounts, head coach Alexei Isakov has found no room for him in his forward lines, with competition for places up front at Torpedo described as fierce.
A move had already looked possible in the middle of summer, when several options for a transfer failed to materialise.
Sokolov returned to the KHL from North America last season and made an immediate mark for Torpedo, posting 40 points (15 goals, 25 assists) in 65 regular-season games, adding five appearances in the play-offs.
