Aubé-Kubel praises Ovechkin's son Sergei's hockey instincts
Minsk Dinamo forward Nicolas Aubé-Kubel commends eight-year-old Sergei Ovechkin for his skating and early promise, while reflecting on his time with Alexander in Washington.
Nicolas Aubé-Kubel, a forward for Minsk Dinamo, has praised the early hockey instincts of Sergei Ovechkin, the eight-year-old son of his former Washington Capitals teammate Alexander.
"I have a very good relationship with Alexander and his sons, and I recall that time with warmth," Aubé-Kubel said. "Sergei is still very small to be compared to his father. But you can already see some base, the beginnings of a master. I wish for him to become a good hockey player. For his age, he has good skating."
Aubé-Kubel played for the Capitals from 2022 to 2024. During that span, Alexander Ovechkin identified the Canadian as Sergei’s favourite player. The forward also spoke about Nastasia Ovechkina, the captain’s wife, describing her as a "very good person" who acted as a "leader among all the wives" during joint events.
There is no expectation that the boy will follow his father to the NHL soon.
