Plyushchev Blames Spartak's Coaching Council After Torpedo Loss
Vladimir Plyushchev says Spartak's coaching council, led by Boris Mayorov, is to blame for the team's 0:1 home defeat to Torpedo in the KHL opener.
Vladimir Plyushchev has put the blame for Spartak's opening defeat on the club's coaching council.
Spartak lost 0:1 at home to Torpedo in the opening match of the Fonbet KHL Championship, a side the former Russia national team coach said was there to be beaten.
Plyushchev had criticised Spartak publicly over the summer, prompting a response from Boris Mayorov, the club's coaching council chairman, who defended what he called the unique balance of the Zhamnov-Skudra-Koreshkov staff and the strength of the squad.
Torpedo went into the match having left forward Yegor Sokolov out of their squad; Ak Bars have since moved to sign him from the club. Their Streltsov Stadium reopened this year with capacity raised to 15,000 seats.
