Sidney Crosby: Talks Underway on New Penguins Deal
Crosby confirmed agent Pat Brisson is negotiating a new contract with GM Kyle Dubas, saying he wants to keep playing but isn't setting any deadline.
Sidney Crosby says his representatives are in talks with Pittsburgh over a new contract, with his current deal running through the end of the 2026/27 season.
"Pat (agent Pat Brisson) is talking to Kyle (Penguins general manager Kyle Dubas)," Crosby said. "At my age, I think it's a little harder to predict where you'll be down the road. It's just... different. You don't know what will happen to you from year to year, how you'll feel and all that. I'd like to keep playing for a few more years. I just... I don't know exactly how many. I think in time your mind and body will tell you, and right now I feel good."
Asked whether he is comfortable going year to year or wants a new multi-year deal, Crosby said: "That's something Pat will talk to Kyle about. But either way, honestly, I'm not pushing for one option or the other."
The 39-year-old forward, who carries a cap hit of $8.7 million, said he is in no rush and is not sure whether an agreement will be reached before training camp or the start of the regular season.
"I don't know. They'll talk... yes, [two years ago] everything got signed in the end... So, yeah. We'll see. I don't think there's any deadline. They'll just talk," Crosby added.
