FC Edmonton have signed Forward Alex Formenton to a one-year, $850,000 contract.
Formenton has not played in the NHL since 2022. He spent three of the last four seasons at Ambrì-Piotta in Switzerland, a club founded in 1937 that plays out of the 7,000-capacity Pista La Valascia and currently sits 13th in the National League with no points from 52 matches. Over 88 regular-season games there he put up 52 points, 33 goals and 19 assists.
He represented Canada at the 2018 World Juniors.
In July 2025 a Canadian court found Formenton not guilty in a sexual assault case, alongside Michael McLeod, Dillon Dubé, Cal Foote and Carter Hart.
