The International Ice Hockey Federation has banned Patrick Fischer for four years. The 51-year-old, who used to coach Switzerland, is barred from working with any national team until 2030.
The federation opened its investigation after the Swiss Ice Hockey Federation sacked Fischer as head coach in April. He had worked at the 2022 Winter Olympics with a forged Covid-19 vaccination certificate. SRF Sport reported the length of the ban.
Whether Fischer can take charge of a club side in Switzerland now depends on the Swiss Sport Integrity foundation (SSI), which said it has received the IIHF's decision and is weighing its next step. The Swiss Ice Hockey Federation confirmed it has been informed of the disqualification by the IIHF and said its own internal investigation into the matter is complete.
