Nizhny Novgorod Ready to Host World Championship
Official Maxim Gafurov says the city would gladly host World Championship hockey matches, as Russia pushes for a return to IIHF competition.
Nizhny Novgorod is ready to host World Championship matches, according to Maxim Gafurov, general director of the Centre for the Management and Development of Sport in the Nizhny Novgorod Region. His comments were carried by Match TV.
The IIHF has already ruled out Russia from the 2027 World Championship, citing the safety and integrity of the sport. Russia has been barred from the tournament by IIHF decision since 2022.
The organisation's Disciplinary Board annulled that exclusion on 28 May. On 7 July the International Olympic Committee lifted its recommendations restricting Russian participation in international sporting events, and the Russian Olympic Committee had its rights provisionally restored.
