Shchitov Slams KHL Pre-Match Shootout Idea
Ex-KHL defenceman Nikita Shchitov says he doesn't understand Alexei Morozov's proposal to decide draws with a shootout before puck drop, calling it a non-hockey idea.
Nikita Shchitov has dismissed the KHL's proposal to settle drawn matches with a shootout before the opening face-off rather than after the final buzzer.
KHL president Alexei Morozov floated the idea earlier, saying that in the event of a draw the winner would be decided by a shootout taken before the match starts, arguing it would add excitement. Shchitov, a former KHL defenceman, was asked about the plan.
"They come up with so many things… For now it's just an initiative. To be honest, I don't understand this format yet. We're used to shootouts being held at the end, so this idea is unclear to me. I don't know who came up with it. I think it was non-hockey people. Let's see whether the idea gets adopted or not," said Shchitov.
