HC Neftekhimik say their KHL fixture against Admiral will go ahead as planned this evening, hours after drone attacks left people dead in Nizhnekamsk.
General director Igor Larionov set out the club's response in a statement: "Today our city came under drone attack. Sadly, there are dead and injured. HC Neftekhimik offers its sincere condolences to the relatives and friends of those killed, and wishes a swift recovery to the injured. The match between Neftekhimik and Admiral will go ahead at the scheduled time, at 17:00, and will begin with a minute's silence for those killed in the drone attack. Players and coaches will wear black armbands. The game will be played without any entertainment activities or music."
Nizhnekamsk mayor Radmir Belyaev said six people were injured and two killed. By his account, one drone hit a residential building, injuring four residents, while another struck a tree near a parked car carrying four young men; two of them died, two more remain in hospital in a serious condition. "This is a great tragedy for the whole of Nizhnekamsk," Belyaev said, adding that industrial and civilian buildings were also damaged and that a fire at one enterprise had since been brought under control.
