Timofei Obvintsev Denies Ottawa in Loss to Toronto
Goaltender Timofei Obvintsev made a string of saves, including a near-miss on a 3-on-0 rush, as Toronto fell 3-4 in overtime at the NHL Prospect Challenge.
Timofei Obvintsev played the full game as Toronto lost 3-4 in overtime to Ottawa at the NHL Prospect Challenge in Gatineau.
The 21-year-old, formerly of the CSKA system, let in four goals but kept the Leafs in the fixture with a string of saves, forcing overtime.
The sharpest moment came on a 3-on-0 rush by the Senators. Obvintsev stopped the puck and fell into the net with it still in his glove, close enough to the line that the goal could have stood. Prospect tournaments carry no video review, so the on-ice call — no goal — was final.
Obvintsev signed with Toronto's AHL affiliate, the Toronto Marlies, in the off-season.
