Ryan Whitney: Carlsson hasn't earned $18M yet
Ex-NHL defenceman Ryan Whitney says Leo Carlsson doesn't yet deserve his new $18M-a-year deal, but blames Anaheim, not the player, for the offer-sheet saga.
Ryan Whitney does not think Leo Carlsson has earned his new deal yet.
Whitney, a former NHL defenceman, gave his verdict on the "Spittin' Chiclets" podcast.
"Right now, Leo Carlsson has not earned $18 million a year. I am his number one fan, and in the future he will deserve that money. But not yet. The circus started because of the offer sheet, but Anaheim have only themselves to blame. They allowed this situation to happen because they did not sign Carlsson to an extension earlier."
Whitney put the blame for the offer-sheet saga squarely on the club, not the player.
