University of Ottawa are close to agreeing an eight-year contract extension with Drake Batherson, according to insider Elliotte Friedman. The new deal would carry a cap hit of between $10.5m and $11m, which would make it the richest contract in franchise history.
Batherson, 28, is entering the final season of his current deal, which pays him $4.975m against the cap in 2026/27. University of Ottawa took him 121st overall at the 2017 NHL Draft, and he made his league debut in 2018/19.
He has 364 points (149 goals, 215 assists) in 470 regular-season games, plus 6 points in 10 playoff appearances. Last season he played 79 games, putting up 71 points (33+38) with a minus-7 rating.
