Evgeni Malkin on His Future With the Penguins
The 40-year-old, who signed a one-year extension in the offseason, says he'll keep playing only as long as his body lets him help Pittsburgh win.
The Pittsburgh forward turned 40 in July and signed a one-year extension with the club over the summer, his 21st with the franchise.
"You know, it's a difficult question. Let's see how things go over the course of the season. Right now I want to say 'yes' [to continuing my career]. But we'll see how my body feels. The thing is, I still love this game. That's exactly why I'm still here after 21 years. I love hockey. I enjoy every shift, every practice, every battle. Being around the guys, having fun. But the main thing is how your body feels. I'm the kind of person who, if I don't feel 100 per cent, doesn't play, you understand? Because I want to show my best hockey. I don't want to just waste time doing nothing. That's not my game. If my game is helping the team win, I'll play. If not, I'll retire," Malkin said.
