Kucherov Reportedly Seeking $20 Million a Year
Journalist Chris Johnston says Nikita Kucherov is seeking around $20 million annually over six years in new contract talks with Tampa Bay Lightning.
Nikita Kucherov is asking for around $20 million a year over six seasons in his new contract talks with Tampa Bay, according to journalist Chris Johnston.
"I have heard that he is asking for a fairly substantial amount – something around 20 million dollars a year on a six-year deal," Johnston said on the Chris Johnston Show podcast.
Kucherov, 33, is still under his current deal, signed in 2019, which pays him $9.5 million a season and has one year left to run. Lightning general manager Julien BriseBois has previously described the forward as "one of the best players of all time," adding: "We would prefer to get a deal done today, but we haven't managed it. We will continue talks about an agreement for many years."
Kucherov won the Hart Trophy last season as the NHL's most valuable player in the regular season, finishing with 130 points (44 goals, 86 assists) in 76 games.
