Ivan Demidov Scores Again as Montreal Edge Toronto
Demidov's power-play goal helped Montreal beat Toronto 4:3 in overtime in a pre-season game, continuing his strong start to the exhibition schedule.
Ivan Demidov scored again on Saturday, his effort against Toronto helping Montreal to a 4:3 overtime win in a pre-season fixture at home.
Juraj Slafkovsky put the hosts ahead in the 5th minute. Demidov made it 2:0 in the 13th, converting on the power play from a tight angle to beat Toronto goaltender Artur Akhtyamov — himself Russian. It was Demidov's power-play ice time (1:42 of his 18:59 on the night) that produced the goal, and it earned him the game's second star.
Montreal defenceman Lane Hutson levelled it at 3:3 in the 3rd minute of the third period, and Cole Caufield settled it in overtime.
Demidov finished with a plus-1 rating and three shots on goal. Akhtyamov played 29:50 and made 13 saves on 15 shots faced.
The 20-year-old Russian forward has started the pre-season on the scoresheet again after a strong entry into the Montreal line-up. Montreal face Ottawa in their next pre-season outing on 22 September; Toronto meet the same opponent two days later, on 24 September.
