Matthews "very happy" Maple Leafs signed Sergei Bobrovsky
Toronto captain Auston Matthews praised new goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky, 38, who signed a three-year deal, citing his professionalism and focus after a 1-4 preseason loss.
Auston Matthews, the Toronto captain, has said he was "very happy" when the Maple Leafs signed goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky, 38, as a free agent this summer. Bobrovsky, who previously played for Florida, agreed a three-year contract.
"Playing with him is a real pleasure. I won't lie, I was very happy when we signed him. All the stories about him, the buzz around him, his professionalism, the way he looks after himself, his focus – all of it is genuinely impressive. I'm incredibly glad he is now on our side," Matthews said, according to The Hockey News reporter David Alter.
Bobrovsky made his first pre-season appearance for Toronto against Montreal, a 1-4 defeat. He stopped 10 of 11 shots and was replaced midway through the second period.
