Plyushchev: Avangard Will Again Be a Hard-Driven Horse in Play-offs

Vladimir Plyushchev, former Russia national team head coach, has lashed out at Avangard coach Bouche, who, in Plyushchev's words, changed nothing after last season's play-off semi-final defeat.

"Avangard coach Bouche changed absolutely nothing after his own fault in last season's play-off semi-final. The same reliance on imports, the same ignores Omsk academy graduates, the same rotation of two or three lines. What prospects can Avangard have if Livo and Poturalski play 20-25 minutes and are drenched in sweat, while the Omsk youngsters sit cold? And this is at the very start of the season, when there is time for experiments and when a group of the team's leaders is injured. It is heading towards Omsk being an overworked horse again in the play-offs. And at best they will deliver Bouche's trademark result: going out in the semi-final. But the main thing is that after Bouche leaves, Omsk will have roughly what Chelyabinsk had after Gru's departure. That is, a crisis with a simultaneous announcement of a 'shift' towards youth," Plyushchev said.

If Plyushchev is right, the pressure on Bouche will build as the season goes on.
