Bowen Byram scored a hat-trick on his debut for Chicago, sinking the winner in overtime as the Blackhawks beat Minnesota 4-3 in a pre-season fixture.
The 25-year-old Canadian defenceman was named the game's first star. Chicago picked him up from Buffalo in the off-season and signed him to a six-year deal worth 12.5 million dollars a season in cap hit.
That contract does not start until the 2027/28 campaign. This coming season, Byram plays out his existing deal with Buffalo, which carries a cap hit of 6.25 million dollars.
