Torpedo beat Sochi 3-0 despite nervous start, says coach Isakov
Head coach Alexei Isakov says Torpedo overcame nerves to beat Sochi 3-0. Goalkeeper Dmitry Shugaev made 19 saves in the KHL victory.
Alexei Isakov, Torpedo's head coach, said his team had to work through nervousness before securing a 3-0 win over Sochi.
He noted the match did not unfold smoothly, with tension lasting until the middle of the third period. Scoring a second goal eased the pressure, he said, allowing the side to see out the result.
Isakov dismissed suggestions that the squad struggled to focus after their previous fixture against Avangard. He insisted there is no need to experiment with any KHL opponent, as each one presents a threat.
The coach admitted they had studied Sochi's recent games, finding that their opponents rarely faced easy matches.
Dmitry Shugaev kept a clean sheet, making 19 saves. Torpedo sit in the standings following the win.
