Kravets slams Barys after 3:6 loss to Neftekhimik
Barys coach Mikhail Kravets criticized his players' sloppy first two periods in a 3:6 home defeat, defended goalkeeper Nikita Shepard and called for consistency.
Barys lost 3:6 to Neftekhimik at home, and head coach Mikhail Kravets did not spare his own players afterwards. After two periods the score stood at 0:5.
Barys came out with a different look in the third period. Kravets pointed to shots from the blue line, second-chance efforts around the crease and a power-play goal as signs of the right approach once the game was already gone.
The coach drew a contrast with the team's away form. On the road, Barys had put together three even matches in a row, though the game against Metallurg Magnitogorsk fell short of the plan there too. Kravets said the priority now is consistency, and above all picking up points against direct rivals for a play-off place.
He also pushed back on the idea that goalkeeper Nikita Shepard had been unprepared. Kravets asked what exactly the goalkeeper had done wrong on the goals conceded, and said defencemen need to do more to help rather than leaving everything to the goaltender. He noted Barys had faced 41 shots in one recent game against eight or nine on Friday, calling the swing telling.
