Ovechkin Named in Washington Squad vs Carolina
Alexander Ovechkin, 41, returns to Washington's lineup for the 2026/27 NHL opener against Carolina after missing the entire pre-season.
Washington have named Alexander Ovechkin in their squad for the opening match of the 2026/27 NHL regular season, against Carolina, which carries 14 forwards, seven defencemen and two goaltenders.
Ovechkin, 41, sat out the whole of Washington's pre-season programme. He is preparing for his 22nd season in the league.
Last season he collected 64 points (32 goals, 32 assists) in 82 regular-season games. He still holds the NHL record for regular-season goals, with 929.
Carolina host Washington on the night of 3 October.
