Matt Nieto Retires After 12 NHL Seasons
The forward, who played for San Jose, Colorado and Pittsburgh, says persistent injuries forced him to end his 705-game NHL career at age 33.
Matt Nieto has announced his retirement at 33, closing a 12-season NHL career spent with San Jose, Colorado and Pittsburgh.
He played 705 regular-season games, putting up 206 points on 87 goals and 119 assists. In the Stanley Cup play-offs he added 21 points, 8 goals and 13 assists, across 62 appearances.
"For the last several years I've been battling injuries that prevented me from playing at the highest level. I missed last season and did everything I could to come back. I'm not leaving because I fell out of love with hockey. I'm leaving because I loved it enough to give it everything I had," Nieto said.
