Pavel Zubov on Lada's 0:5 Loss to CSKA
Lada coach Pavel Zubov admitted his side were outplayed by CSKA despite leading in distance and puck possession, as the team dropped to 10th in the West.
Lada's coach Pavel Zubov did not look for excuses after a 0:5 defeat to CSKA. "What we are doing with the puck is not clear"
The loss was Lada's 8th in 9 games this season. The side sit 10th in the Western Conference with 5 points from 9 matches.
By Zubov's own account, the shot count went against his team, even though Lada led in distance covered and held a clear edge in puck possession time. He put the gap down to pace: CSKA, he said, was a stride quicker throughout, and produced at least two actions for every one from his own players.
Before the game he had held a detailed meeting with his defencemen, telling them the team did not need attacking defencemen at this stage — only a clean sheet, built on work from the forwards, the goaltenders and the back line alike. Instead, one defenceman pushed forward into a three-on-one, and late in the game a CSKA player was left unmarked in Lada's own zone.
