Treliving: Matthews in Best Skating Shape in Years
Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving says Auston Matthews arrived at camp leaner and in his best skating shape in five years ahead of the new season.
Toronto general manager Brad Treliving has given an update on Auston Matthews's summer conditioning, saying the centre arrives at training camp leaner and in his best skating shape in years.
"He's got lighter, more toned up. All of our internal data says he's in his best shape in the last five years in terms of skating. In our view, Auston is the ideal captain. I expect that to remain the case in the coming season," said Treliving.
Matthews played 60 games last season and finished with 53 points (27 goals, 26 assists), his lowest return in 10 NHL seasons.
