Hurricanes Still Negotiating Nikishin Contract Standoff
GM Eric Tulsky says Carolina and Alexander Nikishin's camp are working to resolve the contract dispute after the defenceman requested a trade and changed agents.
Eric Tulsky, general manager of the Carolina Hurricanes, has said the club is still working with Alexander Nikishin's camp to resolve his contract standoff.
Nikishin, a restricted free agent without a deal for the coming season, has requested a trade. The Russian defenceman has also changed representation, and is now advised by Paul Theofanos.
"We're trying to find a solution. He doesn't take the details of the negotiations public, so I won't either. Both sides are trying to work out how to proceed. The change of agent doesn't change our position at all, and I doubt it changes his. There's a new party involved in the process now. We understand each other, we just need to find a way to settle this," said Tulsky.
No timeline for a resolution has been given. Nikishin remains without a contract for the season ahead, and the Hurricanes have made no move on his trade request.
