Arne Engels

Arne Engels came through the Club Brugge academy but never made his senior debut for the first team, spending three seasons instead with the reserve side, Club NXT, where he made 35 appearances and scored three goals. It was FC Augsburg who took him to the Bundesliga for a fee of just €100,000. He made 3 goals and 9 assists across his time in Augsburg, which persuaded Celtic to make him their record signing at £11 million, rising to a possible £13 million.

At Celtic, Engels became a regular in midfield and Celtic's designated penalty taker, making 100 appearances across two seasons. He won the Scottish Premiership in both his campaigns there, along with a Scottish League Cup and a Scottish Cup. His first season in Glasgow also brought individual recognition: he was nominated for the PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year award and shortlisted for the Younger Participant of the Year prize, though he did not win either.

In August 2026, Celtic sold him on again, this time to West Ham United for £22 million, a fee that stood as a record paid by an EFL Championship club at the time of the deal. Engels signed a five-year contract with West Ham, tying him to the club until 2031.
