Dominik Schmid

Rheinfelden AG produced Dominik Schmid, who joined the FC Basel academy in 2009 after starting out at FC Kaiseraugst, and worked his way up to the club's U-21 side. He signed his first professional contract with Basel. Across his first spell at the club he was restricted to five league appearances. At Lausanne-Sport he made 23 appearances, and a subsequent loan at Wil brought closer to forty games and his first senior goal.

When his contract at Basel expired in 2020, Schmid moved on a free transfer to Grasshopper Club Zürich, where he became a fixture at left-back, making 105 appearances and scoring four goals over three seasons. That run of form took him back to Basel in 2023, this time in a permanent transfer reported at €900,000. His second spell at the club proved far more productive than his first: 105 league appearances and nine goals, and a place in the side that won the Swiss Super League and Swiss Cup double in the 2024–25 season.

Schmid received his first call-up to the Switzerland national team in March 2023, named in the squad for Euro 2024 qualifiers against Belarus and Israel, though he remained on the bench for the game against Belarus.

In June 2026 he left Basel for Red Bull Salzburg in a move reported at around €3 million including bonuses, and has since made nine appearances for his new club across the Bundesliga and European competition, registering one assist.
