About the player
Iiro Mendolin came up through Kaarinan Pojat before moving to the Inter Turku academy in 2021. A year later, in August 2022, he left Finland for FC Groningen, signing a three-year contract with the Dutch club's youth setup and staying with their U19 and U21 sides until 2025. He returned home that July, joining Veikkausliiga side AC Oulu as a free agent on a two-year deal with an option for two more years.
Oulu sent him out on loan to OLS in the Ykkönen during the 2025 season, where he made one appearance before making his senior debut for AC Oulu. He marked his Liigacup debut for the club with a goal, and on 18 April 2026 he struck again in the league, scoring the winner in a 1–0 home victory over Vaasan Palloseura for his first Veikkausliiga goal.
Mendolin has represented Finland at every youth level from the U17s up. He collected six caps for the U17s, including three in the UEFA U17 European Championship qualifiers of 2023, before stepping up to the U18s for four caps across 2023 and 2024. At U19 level he has been capped five times, four of them in the UEFA U19 European Championship qualifiers of 2025.
