Oulu and SJK Seinäjoki played out a 0-0 draw at Ratti Stadium on Sunday in the 22nd round of the Veikkausliiga. Both sides went into the match with different ideas about what this result would mean, and by the final whistle neither had managed to change the other's mind.
J. Moisio came on for Oulu in the 33rd minute, one of several changes that hinted at a cautious approach. E. Onuoha picked up a yellow card for the hosts in the 52nd minute, and Kelwin received one for SJK ten minutes later. The game stayed tight through the middle period, with neither team willing to commit too many men forward.
SJK made three changes in quick succession — N. Jokelainen and R. Riski both came on in the 64th minute, then Kelwin was replaced at 70. A. Traore arrived for the visitors in the 89th minute, but by then the match had settled into its pattern. SJK had more shots on target, four to one, but the hosts created the only big chance of the game.
Oulu held 49 per cent possession while SJK had 51, but possession meant little when neither side could find a way through. The visitors registered three corners compared to Oulu's six, and the hosts made 23 crosses with only two landing successfully. SJK worked 11 dribbles but managed just five successful ones.
Before the match Oulu sat sixth with 33 points from 21 games, while SJK were tenth on 18 points. This result keeps Oulu's record at 10 wins, three draws and eight losses, and extends SJK's run of six draws alongside four wins and 11 defeats.
Both teams had come into this round with mixed recent form. Oulu had won two of their last five matches but dropped points against Inter Turku and HJK. SJK's record was worse — they had lost three of their last five, including heavy defeats to Lahti and IFK Mariehamn.
By then the match had been decided by those three or four moments that matter most. The rest was background noise — passes completed, tackles made, aerial duels won. Oulu and SJK both walked away with a point, and neither side looked like they wanted to argue about it.
