Jewison Francisco Bennette Villegas

Jewison Bennette made his mark early at Sport Herediano, winning the Costa Rican league title and the Costa Rican Super Cup during his time in San José before a move abroad. That performance was enough to take him to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar with Costa Rica, a rare stage for a player still establishing himself domestically.

Sunderland brought him to English football afterwards, though his three years at the club produced only a handful of appearances and a single goal. A loan spell at Aris in 2024 offered a change of scenery, before his contract in the north-east ran its course.

Bennette joined LNZ Cherkasy in March 2025, moving into Ukrainian football at a time when the league carries obvious logistical and competitive challenges for any newcomer. He settled in quickly enough to help the club to a runners-up finish in the 2025/26 Ukrainian championship, a result that marked one of the more notable achievements of his career so far.

He has continued to feature for Costa Rica's senior side, with his appearances and goals for the national team building on the platform he first established at Herediano. At club level, the number 27 shirt at LNZ now represents his attempt to rebuild the consistency that eluded him in England.
