About the player
Jonathan Nilsson spent his formative years in the Hässleholm area, coming up through the Ängelholms FF youth ranks before joining Hässleholms IF, where he stayed until 2025.
When his contract in Hässleholm ran out, he did not stay to test the second tier with the club that had just earned promotion. Instead he moved on a free transfer to Varbergs BoIS, another Superettan side, agreeing a deal that runs to the end of 2027. He officially joined the squad in January 2026.
Nilsson has been a regular contributor in his first season at Varbergs BoIS, and his return of four goals and an assist from 17 appearances marks him out as more than a squad player, even though he has started only six of those matches. His best moment so far came against IK Oddevold in August 2026, when he scored twice in the same game.
A right-footed midfielder, Nilsson's route to Varbergs BoIS was a familiar one for a player promoted with a smaller club: rather than staying to find his level in unfamiliar territory, he took the free transfer to a side already established in the division he had just helped his previous club reach.
