Varbergs BoIS

The players came from Haga. They had been turning out for Haga Bollklubb, and in March 1925 they gathered at the Folkets Hus to put their names to something of their own.

Påskbergsvallen was ready that same summer. Gustaf V opened it on 2 July 1925, and the ground has held BoIS ever since, replacing the old pitch at Baggerska lyckan. A new stand went up from the autumn of 2022.

For most of the century in between, the football was regional. The club climbed in stages — Halland, then south-western Götaland, then the southern second and first divisions, the last of those won in 2011 — and each title was a promotion rather than a trophy anyone remembers for itself.

Second place in the Superettan in 2019 sent Varberg up, and Joakim Persson's side reached a division the club had never played in. They stayed four seasons. Astrit Selmani scored 15 in the first of them, in 2020; Joakim Lindner, a defender, played more Allsvenskan matches for BoIS than anyone. Sixteenth in 2023 took them back down.

The fixture that fills Påskbergsvallen is against Falkenbergs FF, twenty-odd miles up the coast — the Hallandsderbyt, named for the county both clubs sit in.
