Malmö FF lost 1-0 to Nottingham Forest in Munich.
The origins were modest enough. Promotion to Allsvenskan took until 1931.
The nickname is worth a moment. Di Blåe is not standard Swedish but Scanian dialect — the local way of saying "the Blues" — and it fixes the club to its province rather than to the country. The shirts are sky blue, the shorts white.
Home matches were played at Malmö Stadion from 1958, a ground built for the World Cup held in Sweden that year and used through the European run. The club left it in 2009 for a new arena next door, now called Eleda Stadion. It holds 22 500 for Allsvenskan fixtures, with a standing section of 4 500 behind one goal; for European nights that terrace is seated and the figure drops to 21 000.
