Mattia Zaccagni

On 19 January 2025 Zaccagni scored against Hellas Verona, the club that had made him a Serie A player, in a 3-0 win. He apologised to the Verona supporters afterwards.

He had arrived at Verona in August 2013 on loan from Bellaria Igea Marina for €10,000; four months later the move was made permanent.

Lazio took him in August 2021 on loan with an obligation to buy set at €7.1 million plus add-ons. The first months were interrupted: a knee sprain in October 2021, in a Europa League tie against Marseille. The obligation was met in July 2022 and he became a permanent Lazio player. He has worked under Maurizio Sarri and Marco Baroni , and after the departures of Ciro Immobile and Luis Alberto he took the captaincy.

Italy called him up for the first time on 30 March 2022, against Turkey; he had not been in the Euro 2020 squad. At Euro 2024 he scored the equaliser against Croatia that carried Italy into the Round of 16, where Switzerland knocked them out. He played in the Nations League in September 2024. By November 2025 he had 13 caps and that one goal.
