About the player
Naoki Hayashi did not come through a J.League academy. He built his path via Rissho University Shonan High School and then Osaka University of Health and Sport Sciences, only turning professional in February 2021 when Kashima Antlers signed him. It was there, in 2021, that he scored his first professional goal, in the Emperor's Cup.
His breakthrough season came on loan. Sent to Tokyo Verdy in February 2023 for what became a two-year spell, Hayashi made 23 appearances and scored three goals in the 2023 J2 League campaign, helping the club win the title and go up automatically to J1. The loan ran through the following season before Tokyo Verdy made the move permanent, announcing the signing on 25 December 2024.
He remains uncapped at senior or youth level for Japan and has yet to pick up an individual honour such as J.League Best XI. His clearest mark on the game so far is the 2023 J2 League championship with Tokyo Verdy, the club where he now plays as a permanent member of the squad after two years as a loanee.
