About the player
Knežević is a Luzern man twice over. He came through the club's academy after starting out at FC Hitzkirch, with a season at SC Kriens and a loan spell at SC Buochs, where he made 25 appearances, along the way. He broke into Luzern's first team in 2014 and stayed for seven seasons, making 103 appearances and scoring four goals, a run that included winning the Swiss Cup in 2020–21.
In June 2021 he left for Royal Charleroi in Belgium on a free transfer, signing a three-year deal with an option for a fourth. He made 64 appearances for the Belgian club, scoring once. Three years later, in July 2024, he returned to Luzern, again on a free transfer, this time putting his name to a five-year contract running to the summer of 2029.
At youth international level, Knežević was capped twice by Switzerland's under-20 side and three times by the under-21s, in 2018 and 2019.
