Samuel Mather

The medal from the 2021–22 FA Youth Cup remains the only honour on Samuel Mather's record. He came through the Manchester United academy and was part of the under-18 side that beat Nottingham Forest in the final, in which he had already signed his first senior contract with the club in September 2021.

Mather joined Rochdale in March 2024 and stayed until May, making ten appearances in the National League and scoring twice — his first senior goal came against Oxford City. Manchester United renewed his contract that summer. A second loan, at Tranmere Rovers from February to May 2025, gave him far less: two brief appearances and no goals.

He did not play for the Manchester United first team. In January 2026 he left permanently for Kayserispor, signing until the summer of 2028. The fee was not disclosed, though the move was not a free transfer, and Manchester United kept both a sell-on clause and a buy-back option.

Mather has represented England through the youth system: two caps at under-16 level in 2019, eight at under-18 across 2021 and 2022, and one at under-19 in 2022. He has not been called up by the senior side.

Right-footed and raised in Salford, he joined Kayserispor at twenty-one with twelve senior league appearances behind him.
