Sonny Cox

Sonny Cox came through Exeter City's academy after joining the club at the age of seven, and by his early twenties had worked his way into the first team. He signed his first professional contract with the club in July 2021.

Loan spells did much of the shaping. At Weston-super-Mare in the 2021/22 season he scored five league goals in 16 appearances, adding another in the play-offs, and the following season a longer stint at Bath City brought five league goals from 19 matches. A loan at Yeovil Town in late 2023 followed a different course: Exeter recalled him early, citing a need for goals back at St James Park, after Cox had made nine appearances and scored twice in the league, including a substitute outing in an FA Cup tie against Wrexham.

Back at Exeter, Cox has become a regular fixture in the squad rather than a peripheral option, with more than ninety league appearances for the club to date. He is left-footed and has also had a trial with Manchester United, a detail that has followed him as evidence of the interest he has attracted from outside Exeter. He has not been capped at any England youth level, and his time at the club so far has been about establishing himself in the side rather than collecting individual honours.
