About the player
Tom Renaud came through the academy at FC Lorient, joining the club at the age of eleven and signing his first professional contract in September 2018. He never made a league appearance for Lorient's first team, but he was part of the squad that won the Ligue 2 title in 2019–20, after 38 appearances for Lorient B.
First-team football came instead through a loan to SO Cholet, where he played 44 league matches and scored twice. Cholet made the move permanent in 2022, and Renaud went on to make 60 appearances and score five goals before leaving in 2024. He then joined FC Versailles 78 on a free transfer, making 54 league appearances and helping the club finish fifth in the Championnat National in 2024–25.
In June 2026 Renaud signed for Heart of Midlothian on a free transfer, agreeing a four-year contract until 2030. He made his debut for the club as a substitute and has since been part of a Hearts squad that reached the UEFA Europa Conference League league phase after eliminating SK Rapid Wien on penalties. A defensive midfielder capable of also playing as a central defender, he has not been called up by France at any youth level.
