About the player
Tenmu Matsumoto's route to professional football ran through Gunma Prefecture and then Niigata rather than a big-name academy. He started out at Myogi Junior Soccer Club before moving to Takaoka FC, and it was at Takaoka Keizai Daikoku Fuso High School that he first drew attention, playing in the 2020 Gunma Prefecture Soccer Tournament before graduating the following year.
From there he went to Niigata University of Health and Welfare rather than straight into the professional game, spending four years as a key player for the university side. That spell included an appearance in the Emperor's Cup in 2022.
V-Varen Nagasaki signed him as a special designated player in October 2024, taking him from the university on a free transfer. He turned that arrangement into a permanent move on 1 February 2025, signing his first professional contract with the club. He arrived too late in the 2024 season to add any league appearances for Nagasaki, but did not concede either as he began life as a full-time professional.
