Zidane Aamar Iqbal

Zidane Iqbal came through Manchester United's academy after starting out at Sale United, and his breakthrough carried symbolic weight beyond the result: when he came on as a substitute against Young Boys in the Champions League in December 2021, he became the first British South Asian player to appear for United's first team and the first to feature for the club in the competition. He stayed on United's books long enough to be part of the squad that won the EFL Cup, though he never made a Premier League appearance for the senior side.

In June 2023 he moved to FC Utrecht for a fee of around one million euros, with Manchester United inserting a sell-on percentage and a buy-back clause into the deal. At Utrecht he split time between the reserves and the first team, and his form in Eredivisie football earned him a place in the competition's Team of the Month on two separate occasions. That spell ended in September 2026, when he signed for Dundee United on a two-year deal with an option for a third.

Internationally, Iqbal chose to represent Iraq, making his senior debut for the national side in January 2022. He was part of the squad that won the King's Cup in 2023, scoring his first international goal against the Philippines and his second against Indonesia. He was named in Iraq's squad for the 2026 World Cup.
