Argentina fielded a team from the very first South American Under-19 Women's Championship, played in Encarnación in May 2004.

Three times the side reached a continental final without winning one. In 2006, 2008 and 2012 Argentina finished runner-up in the South American championship, and on each occasion Brazil stood on the other side of the result. It took until 2024, in Colombia, to get past that stage: a fourth-place finish in the Hexagonal Final sent them through, and they beat their own history by reaching the round of sixteen before Germany ended the run 5–1. Kishi Núñez, the tournament's top scorer, led that squad forward.

The 2026 edition, held in Poland, opened the same way recent tournaments have closed — with elimination pending after a 3–0 loss to the hosts in the first match.

No opponent has shadowed Argentina at this level quite like Brazil, the team standing between them and a first continental title in three separate finals.
