Every meeting with Jackson State carries its own name at Alcorn State — the Soul Bowl, grown out of what was once called the Capital City Classic.

The program traces back to 1921, and its record in the Southwestern Athletic Conference outlasts most rivalries entirely: 13 conference titles, starting in 1968 and stretching to 2019.

Casem-Spinks Stadium holds 22,500.

No one who came through the program is discussed the way Steve McNair still is. He won the Walter Payton Award in 1994 as the country's top player outside the major conferences, then carried that into an NFL career that made him a league MVP in 2003 — a small-college quarterback who forced the sport's biggest stage to take notice, and whose name remains the answer whenever the conversation turns to what Lorman has produced.
