Golden Eagles

Golden Eagles play in the Regionalliga Mitte.

The team grew out of TSV Schott Mainz, taking shape as the club's American football department in 1982.

The honours board includes a 2. Bundesliga title in 1984, a Regionalliga championship in 2001, and two Oberliga Rheinland-Pfalz/Saar wins, in 1997 and 2007.

Blue and gold have stayed the club's colours through that movement, and home games are played at the BSA Mainz-Mombach, a ground built for a capacity of 2,500 rather than for the crowds American football draws in the United States — a reminder that the sport here is still a regional pursuit rather than a mainstream one.

What rivalry the Golden Eagles have is shaped by that same regional structure: promotion and relegation inside the Regionalliga and Oberliga put them back in front of the same clubs from Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland year after year, so the matches that matter most are decided less by history than by who else is fighting through the same tier at the same time.
