Raymond James Stadium seats 69,218 for South Florida Bulls football, though the bowl configuration stretches capacity toward 75,000 when the schedule calls for it. The ground sits in Tampa, shared civic space for a program built to give the University of South Florida a Division I football identity almost from scratch.

That identity took shape gradually. Jim Leavitt coached the Bulls through their first season in 1997, and the nickname itself only settled in stages before that: teams wore 'Golden Brahmans', a nod to Florida's cattle industry, from 1965 until 1981, when 'Bulls' replaced it for the men's programme and then spread across the athletic department by 1987. Green and gold followed as the university's colours, and Rocky the Bull became the face of it.

Bowl games have marked the program's high points. The 2016 Birmingham Bowl went to overtime before the Bulls beat South Carolina, and they returned the following year to beat Texas Tech in the same fixture. The 2023 Boca Raton Bowl added a win over Syracuse. Against that, the team has also walked away from bowl trips empty-handed, including losses to NC State, Oregon, Western Kentucky and Marshall across four separate seasons.

The fixture that carries the most weight on the calendar is the one against UCF, played annually as the 'War on I-4', a reminder that the rivalry runs along the interstate connecting the two campuses as much as through any trophy.

Thirteen bowl appearances since 1997 is a modest tally for the program.
