Cape Town City

The DHL Stadium in Cape Town seats 58,300. For most of their history it gave a young club a stage that outsized its trophy cabinet; before that, matches at Hartleyvale had a different, tighter feel. When relegation to the National First Division followed the 2024–25 season, City moved on to Athlone Stadium instead.

John Comitis built the club by buying the franchise rights of Mpumalanga Black Aces and moving the operation to Cape Town in 2016. That earlier venture now sits on the other side of the fixture City's supporters care about most: Ajax, rebranded as Cape Town Spurs, meets City in the Cape Town Derby, and the needle is sharpened by the fact that Ajax's owner, Ari Efstathiou, is Comitis's brother-in-law.

The Citizens won the Telkom Knockout in their very first season, beating Supersport United 2–1, and added the MTN 8 in 2018 against the same opponents. Two further MTN 8 finals, in 2017 and 2021, ended in defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns, and the league title has stayed out of reach; a second-place finish in 2021–22 remains the club's best.

Benni McCarthy took charge for that 2018 cup run, lending the dugout the same name South African football had known as a forward, and the academy has since sent players the other way out of the country: Jaedin Rhodes moved to SV Ried in 2026 after coming through the ranks, following the same route as Antonio Van Wyk, who later joined Mamelodi Sundowns.
