The kit went the other way. The first shirts were cream, and cream lasted long enough to name the club: Los Cremas .
The Primera División took them in 1951. Thirty-two domestic championships sit behind it, the most recent in the 2023 Apertura.
Beyond the border, the CONCACAF Champions Cup of 1978 stood alone for a very long time. The CONCACAF League came in 2021, forty-three years later.
One smaller item explains the club's sense of itself as well as the trophies do. In 1985 Comunicaciones brought a mascot back from Miami and put it on the touchline — the first in Central America to do so. The habit of being first, and of saying so, runs through the nicknames too: El Más Grande de Guatemala is not a description but a position taken, and it is taken against a specific opponent.
