Goytacaz

The Aryzão — formally the Estádio Ary de Oliveira e Souza — holds just 5,800 people, a small ground for a club that has spent well over a century using it as home. Blue and white cover the stands and the shirts alike, in Campos dos Goytacazes, the town on the Paraíba do Sul that Goytacaz has represented since long before it had a name for its closest rival.

That rival is Americano Futebol Clube, based in the same city, and the games between the two are known simply as Goyta-Cano.

Amarildo came up through Goytacaz's ranks in 1956 and six years later lifted the World Cup with Brazil. Earlier still, goalkeeper Amaro da Silveira had already worn the club's shirt into the national team, called up for the 1923 South American Championship as the first Campos-born player to play for Brazil. Abel Braga also came through as a player, doubled as player-coach at the club, and later managed some of the country's biggest sides.

Nationally, Goytacaz's best moment came in 1985, finishing runner-up in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série B. Rio de Janeiro state titles came in 1955, 1963, 1966, 1967 and 1978, and the club has kept adding regional honours since, from the Carioca Série B2 in 2017 to the fourth-tier Carioca Série B2 again in 2025.

Goytacaz was founded on 20 August 1912, the same blue-and-white club that has played out of Campos dos Goytacazes ever since.
